
As any parent can tell you, travelling with children can be both wonderful, but oftentimes trying. When planning a vacation, it is important to think ahead about activities and sights that are certain to keep the young ones happy and entertained. If you are travelling through Wisconsin, be sure to check out these great ‘kid friendly’ activities and places!
1. Wisconsin Dells. Known as the “Waterpark Capital of the World,” the Dells is perfect to entertain kids of every age. Additionally, with activities such as ‘Circus World,’ the Mid-Continent Railway Museum,’ a ‘Ripley’s Believe it or Not’ museum, and even a working paddlewheel boat, your kids are guaranteed to be begging to return year after year. Adults will love the countless opportunities for golf, great dining establishments and wonderful shopping venues, too.
2. Cave of the Mounds. Located in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, just west of Madison, Cave of the Mounds is a delightful venue where kids can explore the geology and environment of central Wisconsin. Complete with a Butterfly Garden, a Gemstone Mine and a Fossil Dig, this attraction will keep kids entertained for hours. Don’t tell them, but they might even learn something while they’re here!
3. Frank Lloyd Wright Tour. When people think of Frank Lloyd Wright, they may immediately think of Chicago or the Guggenheim Museum in New York. What is not as commonly known is that some of Frank Lloyd Wright’s finest architectural work lies in the great state of Wisconsin. Kids may initially balk at the thought of taking an architectural tour, but once there, they are certain to be amazed by the amazing artistry of Frank Lloyd Wright’s work. Starting in Madison, this two day tour includes Wright’s quintessential masterpiece, the famous Taliesin of Spring Green.
4. Wilderness Walk. In the heart of lake country near Hayward, Wisconsin, the Wilderness Walk is a zoo, a recreated western town and a nature preserve all wrapped into one. Kids can feed baby farm animals in the nursery, admire a rare Siberian tiger and visit a working blacksmith’s shop, all on the same afternoon! Set a backdrop of gorgeous northern Wisconsin scenery, the Wilderness Walk is great for kids and adults alike.
5. Lake Country. Kids will be amazed by the countless outdoor recreational opportunities available in northern Wisconsin. From spending the night on a houseboat to snow-shoeing past an elk in winter, the beauty of the wilderness that is northern Wisconsin is sure to make a lasting impression!
