Pine River and its community of the same name have a rich history here in northern Minnesota. To this day, logging is extremely important to the local economy of Pine River, Minnesota. With the arrival of the Northern Pacific Railroad, the community of Pine River officially took shape. George Barclay, the owner and operator of Barclay’s Trading Post, is credited with officially founding Pine River. The main thoroughfare of the city, Barclay Avenue, is named in his honor.
