The metro area is often overlooked as a great place to find a lake home or cabin. Believe it or not, you can still find cabins on some of the metro area lakes. If you do not want to drive up north, take a look at some of the Forest Lake Homes on the market or the White Bear Lake homes currently available. You may be surprised when you find a few bargains this close to the cities. A quick search turned up some great places that are priced to move quickly.
