Well, Friday is here! Not that it means anything around here…but this is a special Friday. Today my 7 year old daughter Ashley is in the office with me. As I type this entry, she is doing a “rock star make-over” at PollyPocket.com (wow – I just found that a certain online casino owns the domain “polleypocket.com” and redirects you to their online gambling hall – that is pathetic.) Anyways, we are having fun working on our own projects – but I have found out that she is extremely fast at creating new “make-overs” and she insists on hearing my opinion before printing each one…so, I am also becoming an expert-level user at PollyPocket’s website.
Ashley is also a blogger – well, she will be when I get some time to help her figure everything out a little more. A while back we set up her own blog titled: French Immersion School (www.frenchimmersionschool.com). She plans on updating it daily this year as she starts her 3rd year (second grade) at L’Etoile du Nord. If you are not familiar with immersion schools – they are really awesome…If you have young children, keep an eye on Ashely’s blog to get a 2nd graders perspective! About Immersion schools – from the time your child walks in the doors for kindergarten – it is French (or Spanish or whatever) only. They speak no English during school hours – all subjects are taught in French. You would be amazed at how fast children pick up a second language. Ashely is already very close to fluent (after 1st grade), and the school tells us that she will speak with a native tongue by the time she graduates 6th grade (meaning that even the French born will not recognize an English accent.) Tests also show that children who learn a second language at an early age tend to “rise above” in all other areas (including English) of academics.
So, I’m done ranting and raving about my daughter. I have two more daughters (teenagers, and not interested in spending a summer day in dad’s office) who I think just as highly of, but I am afraid I will scare you away if I move on to there accomplishments…so I will save them for another day. I have to get back to dressing up rock stars at PollyPocket.com. Have a great weekend – Go Vikes!
