DNR and national outdoor education program welcome new anglers, target shooters, archers, hunters

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Step Outside, a national outdoor education program, are looking for partners who promote traditional outdoor activities like target shooting, archery, hunting and fishing.

This summer, the DNR and Step Outside will provide marketing, advertising and organizational materials for groups who hold an outdoor education event from Aug. 6-14.

Events do not need to be sponsored by the DNR to be included in Step Outside and can expand beyond these target activities to other outdoor recreation said Jenifer Matthees, the DNR’s MinnAqua coordinator.

“This is a great opportunity for outdoor recreation groups to connect with resources provided by a national group like Step Outside. We strongly encourage groups with interest in traditional outdoor activities to get involved.”

Representatives of groups interested in learning more should attend an organizational meeting April 13 from 4:00-6:30 p.m. at Gander Mountain on Interstate 35 in Forest Lake.

RSVP by April 8 to Jenifer Matthees, or call (651) 297-4919.

Visit Step Outside at www.stepoutside.org for guidelines and group activity guides.
